May 5th EDL Luton Protest: Review

Even though the majority of Luton didn’t want the EDL there, the EDL still turned up and marched in Luton (5th May) to voice their concerns over three or four men who were charged with terrorism offences. But despite this cause, the demo seemed to be totally out of bounds.

With placards reading ‘No Sharia Law’, to a supporter even wearing a pig mask, one may question what on earth the EDL were trying to achieve...

Trying to insult Muslims whipping up hate?

Various sources even stated that the EDL supporters seemed drunk (notice the man holding a beer can in the image above). Some eye-witnesses said supporters went in the wrong direction. Click here to read about the preparation of alcohol during the protest beforehand.

The event was fairly peaceful, but Luton News reported that bottles and cans were thrown at the police, and luckily none were hit. Luton Borough Council also reported that an EDL protestor was arrested. We need to question how true is the EDL in its cause by saying it opposes ‘militant Islam’. This protest, was far off the cause and more like a hate-filled social-gathering.
