EDL Irrationality: Defining Islam For Us?

Can we trust the English Defence League (EDL) to show us what Islam is?

We are told in the EDL’s Mission Statement that the EDL ‘promotes the understanding of Islam’. But upon analysis of the EDL’s rhetoric and ideology, we know this is a blatant lie.

Why? The EDL shows to hate Islam to the very core and there is significant evidence to show us the EDL only pick-and-chooses what it has to say. It rarely has anything good to say. Likewise, this status posted by the EDL’s Leicester Division reflects what is being said here.

Clearly, the EDL is trying to hijack the faith and propagate what it believes to be true (even when its key players lack credentials and scholarship). EDL supporters are then spoonfed to think that Islam itself is a ‘evil’ ideology, and a ‘threat’ to Western civilization.

It has many downsides. For example, it makes it extremely difficult for people to distinguish ‘normal’ people from ‘extremists’. More seriously, it can lead people to becoming intolerant and aggressive. Countless EDL supporters have been arrested for chanting religious abuse, using threatening behaviour, and even harassing Muslim women.

The EDL has an Islamophobic agenda. It’s discriminative, bias and not helpful in tackling the problems we have in Britain. Rather, this ideology is feeding hate and making things worse for our country.

Can we trust the EDL to show us what Islam is? No.

  1. Didn't Hitler try to stir up hatred against other faiths like how the EDL does back in Nazi Germany?

  2. Asalaamwalaykum everyone. I urge you all to find out about Islam, not from fake scholars or critics, but by people who have spent their life studying Islamic teachings, the Quran and the Arabic language. They have more knowledge about various topics. There's always two sides of the coin. Thanks.
